This calculator works out zakat for a person in Pakistan. Enter gold and silver by weight, in grams or tola, then the cash, bank balances, business stock and money owed to you. Take off the debts that are due now. The tool values the metal at a price per tola, compares the net total with the nisab and applies 2.5% once the total reaches it. The nisab follows the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance 1980: the value of 612.32 grams of silver, or 87.48 grams of gold for a person whose zakat assets are all gold. The prices start at the Sarafa association rates of 31 October 2026 and can be changed to the rate on your own zakat date. The calculator does not rule on which assets count under your school of fiqh, and a scholar can settle a doubtful item. The weights and amounts you enter are not sent anywhere: the sums run inside this page.

How to use the Zakat Calculator

  1. Enter the weight of gold and silver you own and choose grams or tola.
  2. Enter cash in hand, bank balances, business stock at its selling price and money owed to you.
  3. Enter the debts due now, such as an unpaid bill or an installment that has fallen due.
  4. Keep the silver nisab or switch to gold, and check both prices per tola. Tip: Replace the prices with the Sarafa rate on the day your zakat year ends.
  5. Read the zakat due, the zakatable total and the nisab, then copy the breakdown.

Worked example

A person with 25 grams of gold, savings and a debt due, valued at the Sarafa rates of 31 October 2026. All figures are PKR.

Inputs of the worked example
InputValue
Gold25 grams at PKR 409,736.00 a tola
SilverNone, priced at PKR 5,388.00 a tola for the nisab
Cash and bank balancesPKR 100,000.00 and PKR 600,000.00
Money owed to youPKR 50,000.00
Debts due nowPKR 150,000.00
Nisab basisSilver, 612.32 grams
Gold = 25 / 11.664 = 2.143347 tola x 409,736 = PKR 878,206.45
Assets = 878,206.45 + 100,000 + 600,000 + 50,000 = PKR 1,628,206.45
Zakatable total = 1,628,206.45 - 150,000 = PKR 1,478,206.45
Nisab = 612.32 / 11.664 = 52.496571 tola of silver x 5,388 = PKR 282,851.52
The total is above the nisab, so zakat = 1,478,206.45 x 2.5% = PKR 36,955.16
Zakat due
PKR 36,955.16
Zakatable total
PKR 1,478,206.45
Nisab
PKR 282,851.52 (612.32 g of silver)
Value of the gold
PKR 878,206.45

Each value is rounded once, half up, to the paisa. The gold nisab of PKR 3,073,020.00 applies only when gold is the only asset: 100 grams of gold and nothing else owes PKR 87,820.64. These assets are mixed, so picking the gold basis still gives PKR 36,955.16 on the silver nisab.

How zakat is calculated

Metal value = weight in tola x price per tola, with 1 tola = 11.664 g
Zakatable total Z = gold + silver + cash + bank + stock + money owed - debts due (never below 0)
Nisab N = 612.32 g of silver, or 87.48 g of gold, x price per tola / 11.664
Zakat = Z x 2.5% when Z is at least N, otherwise 0

Gold and silver are entered by weight and valued at a price per tola, the unit the Pakistani bullion market quotes. A weight in grams is divided by 11.664, the tola of the Pakistan Mercantile Exchange contract. Cash, bank balances, stock for sale and money you expect to collect are added at face value, and debts due now are taken off. Each value is rounded once to the paisa.

The Zakat and Ushr Ordinance 1980 defines the nisab in section 2 as the value of 612.32 grams of silver, or 87.48 grams of gold for a person whose assets liable to zakat are only gold. A person holding at least that value is sahib-e-nisab, so zakat is due when the total equals the nisab as well as when it is higher. Section 3 charges zakat from a person who is sahib-e-nisab on the Valuation Date and has been for the whole of the zakat year before it. The calculator works on the figures of one day and does not check that year.

The Ordinance also collects zakat at source. Under its First Schedule a bank deducts 2.5% from savings and similar accounts, on the balance at the start of the Valuation Date, which is the first day of Ramadan, on a deduction date the Administrator General notifies. No deduction is made when the balance is not above the amount notified for that zakat year. Fixed deposits and certificates are charged when the first return is paid or on encashment. A sworn declaration filed with the bank at least 30 days before the Valuation Date stops the compulsory deduction for a person whose fiqh does not oblige it.

The default prices are the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association rates for 24 karat gold and for silver on 31 October 2026, as The Nation reported them on 1 November 2026. They are updated by hand once a month, so the rate on your own zakat date may differ.

Agricultural produce, which pays ushr, livestock, shares, funds and pension savings have rules of their own and are not separate inputs here. A home, a car and other things kept for personal use are not inputs either.

Frequently asked questions

What is the nisab for zakat in Pakistan?

The Zakat and Ushr Ordinance 1980 sets the nisab as the value of 612.32 grams of silver, about 52.5 tola. A person whose zakat assets are all gold uses 87.48 grams of gold, which is 7.5 tola. At the Sarafa rates of 31 October 2026, PKR 5,388.00 a tola for silver and PKR 409,736.00 for gold, those come to PKR 282,851.52 and PKR 3,073,020.00. The Administrator General also notifies a rupee figure each zakat year for bank deductions.

Do banks deduct zakat from savings accounts?

Yes, from savings and similar accounts. The First Schedule of the Ordinance has the bank deduct 2.5% of the balance held at the start of the Valuation Date, the first day of Ramadan, unless the balance is no more than the amount the Administrator General notifies. A Muslim whose fiqh does not oblige this can file a sworn declaration with the bank at least 30 days before that date. This calculator does not know what a bank has already deducted.

Which nisab applies, silver or gold?

The Ordinance uses silver for most people and gold only for a person whose zakat assets are all gold. Silver gives the lower threshold, so more people reach it. At the 31 October 2026 prices the silver nisab is PKR 282,851.52 and the gold nisab PKR 3,073,020.00. The calculator applies the gold nisab only when gold is the only asset entered. With cash, savings or other assets it uses silver, even when gold is picked, and a note says so.

Are debts taken off before zakat is worked out?

Debts that are due now come off the total: an unpaid bill, an installment that has fallen due, or money borrowed from a relative that must be repaid. The calculator subtracts the whole amount you enter and never lets the total fall below 0. How much of a long term home or car loan may be deducted is a question scholars answer differently, so the tool leaves that amount to you.

How many grams are in a tola of gold?

One tola is 11.664 grams, the figure the Pakistan Mercantile Exchange uses for its one tola gold contract. So 3 tola is 34.992 grams, and 7.5 tola is the 87.48 gram gold nisab. Gold and silver in Pakistan are priced per tola, so the calculator turns grams into tola, multiplies by the price and rounds once to the paisa. Entering 3 tola or 34.992 grams gives the same value.
