Income tax on a salary in Pakistan is charged slab by slab. Income up to the first line is tax free, and each part above it is taxed at the rate of the slab it falls in, on top of a fixed amount that stands for the slabs below. This calculator starts from a yearly salary, the figure on a tax deduction certificate or an annual return, and lays the result out in a slab table under How we calculate. Each row shows how much income falls in that slab and the tax it produces, and the rows add up to the total. A salary of Rs 3,000,000 a year pays Rs 276,000. The month view divides the year by 12, and the tax year switch shows Tax Year 2026 for checking a past deduction. Nothing you type leaves this browser tab.

How to use the Pakistan Income Tax Calculator

  1. Type the salary for the full tax year, from 1 July to 30 June.
  2. Leave Salary per on Year, or switch to Month if you only know the monthly figure.
  3. Open How we calculate to read the slab table row by row. Tip: A slab your income does not reach shows a zero, so the whole table is always there.
  4. Pick 2025/26 in the tax year switch to see Tax Year 2026 and check what an employer deducted before July 2026.

Worked example

A salaried individual's salary for the year from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 is Rs 3,000,000, with no tax free allowance. All the amounts are Pakistani rupees, PKR.

Inputs of the worked example
InputValue
Salary for the year before taxRs 3,000,000
Medical allowanceNone
Tax free slab: the first 600,000 at 0% = 0
1% slab: 600,000 x 1% = 6,000
11% slab: 1,000,000 x 11% = 110,000
20% slab: (3,000,000 - 2,200,000) = 800,000 x 20% = 160,000
Income tax = 6,000 + 110,000 + 160,000 = 276,000 a year, or 23,000 a month
Share of the salary paid in tax = 276,000 / 3,000,000 = 9.2%, with a marginal rate of 20%

Slab table of the Tax Year 2027 rates file, checked on 1 November 2026 against the FBR's consolidated Income Tax Ordinance.

How it is calculated

Tax = fixed amount of the slab + slab rate x (taxable income - the slab's starting point)
Fixed amount of a slab = the tax on every slab below it
Effective rate = income tax / salary for the year
Monthly tax = income tax / 12

The Finance Act 2026 replaced the salaried table in the First Schedule to the Income Tax Ordinance 2001, Part I, Division I. The new table runs for the tax year from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. The FBR text marks it as the table for an individual whose salary is more than 75% of taxable income.

The fixed amounts make the table quick to read. Each one is the tax on all the slabs below, so the slab from Rs 3,200,000 to Rs 4,100,000 starts at Rs 316,000: nothing on the first Rs 600,000, 1% of the next Rs 600,000, 11% of the next Rs 1,000,000 and 20% of the next Rs 1,000,000. That is Rs 6,000 plus Rs 110,000 plus Rs 200,000, which is Rs 316,000. The calculator adds up its rows the same way, so the slab table and the formula always agree.

For the worked example of Rs 3,000,000 a year, the salary passes three slab lines and stops inside the 20% slab. Rs 800,000 of it lies in that slab, which adds Rs 160,000 to the fixed Rs 116,000, so the year's tax is Rs 276,000. Paid monthly, the same salary is Rs 250,000 with Rs 23,000 taken off each month.

The tax year switch also holds the Tax Year 2026 table from the Finance Act 2025. It had fewer slabs, with 23% from Rs 2,200,000, 30% from Rs 3,200,000 and 35% above Rs 4,100,000. On Rs 3,000,000 that table gives Rs 300,000, which is Rs 24,000 more than this year. Above Rs 10,000,000 of taxable income the Tax Year 2026 view also adds the 9% surcharge on the tax, which the Finance Act 2026 removed for salary income.

Tax is worked out to the paisa and each slab amount is rounded half up. The monthly figure divides the yearly tax by 12, which is how an employer spreads the tax on a steady salary across the year. A payslip can differ where pay changed during the year or a bonus was paid.

Frequently asked questions

What is the tax free income limit for a salaried person?

For Tax Year 2027 the first Rs 600,000 of taxable income carries no tax, which is Rs 50,000 a month. Above that the 1% slab starts. The limit is the same as in Tax Year 2026. A salary exactly on the limit pays nothing, and each rupee above it is taxed at 1% until the next slab begins.

How do I read the slab table?

Each row is one slab: its name, its rate, where it starts and ends, how much of your income it taxes and the tax on that amount. A slab your income does not reach shows zero in the last two columns. The tax column adds up to the total income tax, so the result can be checked by hand with a calculator or a spreadsheet.

What is the difference between the marginal and the effective rate?

The marginal rate is the rate on the next rupee earned, which is the rate of the slab your income ends in. The effective rate is the whole year's tax divided by the whole salary. At Rs 3,000,000 a year the marginal rate is 20% while the effective rate is 9.2%, because the lower slabs are taxed at less or not at all.

Can I use this for business or rental income?

No. The table here is the one for salaried individuals, people whose salary is more than 75% of taxable income. Income from a business, a profession or property is taxed under other rules, and a person whose salary is a smaller share of income uses a different rate table. Neither is part of this calculator.

Does the income tax figure include super tax or Zakat?

No. Super tax under section 4C applies to people with very high income and is a separate charge, so it is left out. Zakat deducted by a bank is not income tax either. The figure here is the tax from the salaried slabs alone, before any tax credit for donations, pension fund contributions or investments.
