What this does not include

  • Covers salary income only, for a person whose salary is more than three quarters of taxable income. Business, rental and other income are not included.
  • Does not include provincial taxes, such as professional tax, or the super tax on very high incomes.
  • Does not include gratuity, or Zakat deducted at source by banks.
  • Does not include tax credits, such as those for charitable donations, pension fund contributions or investments.
  • Works on a full tax year at a steady salary. Payroll may spread the tax differently across months, so a payslip can differ a little.

This calculator works out the income tax on a salary in Pakistan and the pay left after it. Type the salary for a month, the way most people in Pakistan are paid and quote it, or switch to a year. It applies the salaried slabs of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 for Tax Year 2027, which runs from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, as the Finance Act 2026 set them. At Rs 250,000 a month the tax is Rs 23,000 a month, and Rs 227,000 reaches the bank. A bonus, a provident fund contribution and a tax free medical allowance can be added under More options. Compare shows the same salary under the Tax Year 2026 slabs. The working runs in this browser tab, and the salary you type stays on your device.

How to use the Pakistan Salary Tax Calculator

  1. Type your salary before tax and choose Month or Year.
  2. Open More options to add a yearly bonus, a provident fund contribution or a medical allowance. Tip: The medical allowance is part of the salary you typed, so it can lower the tax but never adds to the pay.
  3. Read the take home pay a month at the top, with the year and the share you keep under it.
  4. Pick Compare in the tax year switch to set the Tax Year 2026 slabs beside this year's for the same salary.
  5. Copy the result, download the breakdown as CSV, or share a link that holds your figures.

Worked example

A salaried employee in Pakistan is paid Rs 250,000 a month in Tax Year 2027, with no bonus, provident fund or medical allowance. Every amount is in Pakistani rupees (PKR).

Inputs of the worked example
InputValue
Salary before taxRs 250,000 a month
Bonus, provident fund, medical allowanceNone
Yearly salary = 250,000 x 12 = 3,000,000
Income tax = 116,000 + 20% x (3,000,000 - 2,200,000) = 276,000 a year
Tax a month = 276,000 / 12 = 23,000
Take home a month = 250,000 - 23,000 = 227,000
Effective rate = 276,000 / 3,000,000 = 9.2%
Tax Year 2026 on the same salary = 116,000 + 23% x 800,000 = 300,000 a year, so Tax Year 2027 takes Rs 2,000 less a month

Slabs from the Tax Year 2027 rates file, checked against the FBR text of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 on 1 November 2026.

How it is calculated

Yearly salary = monthly salary x 12, plus any yearly bonus
Taxable income = yearly salary - tax free medical allowance (the lower of the allowance and 10% of basic salary)
Income tax = fixed amount of the slab + slab rate x (taxable income - where the slab starts)
Take home a month = (yearly salary - income tax - provident fund) / 12, rounded to the paisa

The Finance Act 2026 set the salaried table for Tax Year 2027. It sits in Part I, Division I of the First Schedule to the Income Tax Ordinance 2001, and it applies to a person whose salary is more than 75% of taxable income. The calculator turns the salary into a yearly figure first, because the slabs are yearly, then divides the result by 12 for the monthly view.

Each slab has a fixed amount and a rate. The fixed amount is the tax on everything below the slab, already added up, and the rate applies only to the part of income inside the slab. Income up to Rs 600,000 a year carries no tax. The next slab, up to Rs 1,200,000, is taxed at 1%, and the rates then climb through 11%, 20%, 25%, 29% and 32% to 35% on income above Rs 7,000,000.

In the worked example the salary is Rs 250,000 a month. The year comes to Rs 3,000,000, inside the slab from Rs 2,200,000 to Rs 3,200,000. The tax is Rs 116,000 plus 20% of Rs 800,000, which is Rs 276,000 a year or Rs 23,000 a month. That leaves Rs 227,000 a month, and the effective rate is 9.2%. The marginal rate is 20%, so Rs 80 of the next Rs 100 of salary would be kept.

A medical allowance is part of the salary you type. Under clause (139) of Part I of the Second Schedule, the allowance is tax free up to 10% of basic salary when the employer does not also give free medical treatment, hospitalization or reimbursement. The calculator asks what share of the salary is basic pay so it can find that limit, then takes the tax free part off taxable income. A bonus is added to the yearly salary. A provident fund contribution comes out of take home pay after tax.

Compare runs the same inputs through the Finance Act 2025 slabs of Tax Year 2026. Those charged 23%, 30% and 35% above Rs 2,200,000, and added a surcharge of 9% of the tax on taxable income over Rs 10,000,000. The surcharge fell on the whole tax, so in that year one rupee over the line could cost more than a rupee of take home pay.

Frequently asked questions

How much income tax is due on Rs 200,000 a month?

The yearly salary is Rs 2,400,000, which falls in the slab that starts above Rs 2,200,000. The tax is Rs 116,000 plus 20% of the Rs 200,000 above that line, so Rs 156,000 a year. Divided by 12 that is Rs 13,000 a month, which leaves Rs 187,000 a month to take home. The effective rate is 6.5%.

Does being a filer or non filer change my salary tax?

No. The salary slabs are a single table for every salaried individual, so the tax shown here is the same for a filer and a non filer. Filer status, meaning a place on the FBR's Active Taxpayers List, changes the withholding rates on other payments, such as bank profit, dividends, property transfers and vehicle registration. Those deductions are not part of a salary calculation, so this page leaves them out.

How is a bonus taxed in Pakistan?

A bonus counts as salary, so it is added to the year's pay and taxed through the same slabs. Enter it under More options as a yearly amount. The calculator adds it to the salary for the year, works out the tax on the total and spreads the take home over 12 months. An employer usually recovers the extra tax over the months left in the tax year, so a single payslip can show a larger deduction than this average.

Is a provident fund contribution taken off before tax?

Not in this calculator. Your own provident fund contribution is taken from pay that has already been taxed, so it lowers take home pay but leaves the income tax as it was. Enter it as a percent of salary or as an amount each pay period. The employer's matching contribution is not shown, because it is not paid to you as salary.

Why did the tax fall this year for some salaries only?

The Finance Act 2026 left the slabs up to Rs 2,200,000 a year as they were, so a salary of up to about Rs 183,000 a month pays the same tax in both years. Above that line the old rates of 23% and 30% became 20% and 25%. At Rs 250,000 a month the saving is Rs 2,000 a month. Compare shows the change for any salary.
